The Revived Score of Dmytro Bortniansky’s First Opera «Creonte» Officially Presented at UNESCO

On 27 October 2025, on the eve of the UNESCO General Conference, the co-organizers of the project – UNESCO Artist for Peace and conductor of the National Opera of Ukraine Herman Makarenko, together with Professor Mykola Prodanchuk, Director of the L.I. Medved Scientific Center, solemnly presented the first published edition of Dmytro Bortniansky’s opera «Creonte» to UNESCO Director-General Ms.Audrey Azoulay during the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors meeting.

The event took place within the framework of the project «Returning to the World of Dmytro Bortniansky’s First Opera «Creonte», implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and under the patronage of UNESCO.
The publication of the full score marked another important milestone following the research and digitization of the original manuscript, the world concert premiere, and the world stage premiere held on 3 October 2025 at the Olha Kobylianska Chernivtsi Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre.

During the meeting of Goodwill Ambassadors, Maestro Makarenko delivered a speech on the role of art and culture during wartime, expressing his sincere gratitude to the leadership of UNESCO, headed by Ms. Audrey Azoulay, for their assistance and support in implementing the project «Returning to the World of Dmytro Bortniansky’s First Opera «Creonte».
