Music of Gazi II Giray in Paris
In November 2023, Paris hosted a concert featuring the music of one of the Crimean khans of the Giray dynasty, Gazi II Giray. The event took place as part of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris.
Works dating back 500 years by the Crimean ruler, composer, and poet were performed in the Parisian Catholic church of Saint-Sulpice.
The concert was made possible through the collaboration of two UNESCO Artists for Peace, Kudsi Erguner, who provided musical materials from his father’s private collection, and Herman Makarenko, the conductor and initiator of the project, who brought these works back to life. In the future, these compositions are intended to be included in an encyclopedia of the world’s musical heritage.
